music at cpc
Traditional Christian music is central to CPC's worship experience. The sanctuary houses a pipe organ and brand new Yamaha grand piano. Taylor Baldwin provides service music on both piano and organ and directs the Chancel Choir, which regularly provides the anthem. The congregation uses the blue Presbyterian Hymnal each week.
Under the direction of Taylor Baldwin, the Chancel Choir provides its music ministry each Sunday as it leads the congregation in song and provides the anthem. Members of the Chancel Choir range from high school youth to "seasoned" church members and worship-goers. This group also performs an annual Service of Lessons and Carols, most often with orchestra - a very special Advent service enjoyed by many from around the New River Valley.
Rehearsals are held in the sanctuary on Wednesday evenings from 7:30-8:45.
Under the direction of Kathie Hollandsworth, the Chancel Ringers is a handbell choir that provides special music periodically throughout the year. The youngest members of the Chancel Ringers are typically high school youth.
Rehearsals are held in the Choir Room (room 103) on Wednesday evenings from 6:30-7:30.
Harmony Choir is a vocal choir for youth in grades 3-8. As the name implies, music is chosen that allows the children to sing melodic and harmonic lines, and the music is chosen with developmental and musical growth in mind. This group provides service music periodically throughout the year, and prepares a special Children's Christmas Program each December, including a skit and several musical selections, along with Good Vibrations and the Melody Choir.
Rehearsals are held in conjunction with Good Vibrations in Room 103 on Wednesday afternoons from 3:30-4:30. Transportation from local schools may be provided upon request.
